| Credit Repair For Homeowners in Foreclosure | | Posted : 0000-00-00 | Almost everyone in this country, is aware of the foreclosure epidemic. You see it on the news, read about it in the paper as well as the internet. You can't seem to get through a day without hearing about someone's cousin or brother being in trouble and starting to fall behind on the house payments.
Never in our history has this country seen the number of foreclosures as are happening right now. Many find themselves asking how did this happen? Better yet, why did this happen? And, when will this credit crisis stop? The answers are diverse and complicated.
Every day thousands of hard working Americans find themselves in a panic to make their mortgage payment by the end of the month. Once that deadline is missed, it seems to become only a few short weeks, before the deadline the lender imposes, is the date the foreclosure will start.
Most homeowners, through no fault of their own, have been subjected to a job loss, divorce, medical problem, entrepreneurial episode or bad mortgage loan and no longer can make those monthly payments. Soon they find themselves subjected to dealing with creditor calls, perhaps having lines of credit cut back or worse, cut off. Insurance premiums going up, at renewal time, or worse yet, being cancelled altogether!
What a headache!! Yes, bad credit scores can cause you to lose certain lines of credit even if you paid them right on time, and year after year. The same holds true for your insurance premiums. You may have never filed a claim, but when your policy renews, if your credit score should be reviewed, your premiums will most likely go up! It's crazy but suddenly you've become a "high risk" borrower and "high risk" insured.
If there is no way to reconcile with your mortgage lender and you can't sell to another homeowner or to an investor with a short sale then, your worst case scenario is foreclosure.
First thing to do is know that the world is not coming to an end. Take a deep breath and know that there will be happy days again. You bought your home one time you can do it again.
Next, get into a financial situation that works for you. This may be a very drastic change from your current lifestyle, this may mean renting an apartment, finding a lease option home, or moving back in with mom and dad. Whatever it is, get going on this decision and get these hard times behind you. Mentally you'll begin to feel better once this move has been completed.
Just make sure that with your present income, although it may be reduced is enough to cover your current expenses in your new home. Just know that, for at least the time being, this may be a dramatic change in lifestyle. That's OK, just get it done! Only when this is completed can you begin that new life chapter.
Lastly, start to rebuild your credit and pride. There are many truths to good credit restoration. The first is to know that all things are possible when it comes to having negative items on a credit report deleted. Yet, nothing is 100% guaranteed. I know this is a contradiction, but due to the complexities of the credit laws and how the credit bureaus and your creditors, may or may not react, combined with your knowledge of those laws and perseverance sometimes is the difference between success and failure.
It may not be easy, but any item you can think of, including foreclosure, bankruptcy, judgments, and charge offs have been deleted from credit reports. The credit bureaus take off thousands of "major" negative items every day.
The other big truth you need to know is that as time elapses, over the months and years, items become easier to remove, all which will raise your credit scores.
So, once you've emerged from your financial storm and you're able to handle your new debt load, it's time to begin working on clearing up your credit report and raising your credit scores.
Good credit and credit scores can be yours again. The sooner you start this process the sooner you'll get results. Remember, your credit didn't get messed up overnight, it's not reasonable to expect it to be corrected overnight. It will take time, energy, effort and follow up with the credit bureaus to insure success.
This is an activity that you can do yourself or get professional help with. Either way, it's one that, when done correctly, will reward you with increased credit scores, give you back your sense of dignity and allow you to buy the things, like a new home, at a fair and reasonable interest rate, once again.
